Pricing Policy
Online shopping is competitive, and the Chairish shopper is savvy. Please so keep this in mind when pricing your items.
While we'd love to be able to help you price your items, Chairish doesn't employ licensed appraisers or offer valuation services.
Although our Curators are not able to advise on pricing, fair market value is something we consider in the listing review process. If we determine that an item’s value is misrepresented, we may choose to decline your item.
Our Curators always consider fair margins for markdowns, which typically start at about 30% more than the minimum you are willing to accept for a product. Learn more about markdowns here.
Pricing Tips
Setting the right price helps your item sell faster while maximizing your return.
Key factors that drive price:
- Designer/brand and model: Iconic or documented pieces command premiums.
- Age and rarity: Early editions or scarce variants often sell higher.
- Condition: Use our grading guide; adjust for any flaws or needed restoration.
- Materials and craftsmanship: Solid wood, hand-knotted rugs, premium upholstery, etc.
- Size and proportions: Large pieces can be harder to place; smalls may move faster.
- Demand and style: On-trend styles or colors can lift prices; seasonality can matter.
- Location and logistics: High buyer shipping costs can affect demand; consider the total landed cost to the buyer.
Pricing strategies that work:
- Start competitive: For identical pieces, anchor near the recent market median for comparable condition.
- Monitor and adjust: If views are high but saves/inquiries are low after 10-14 days, consider a 10% price adjustment or refreshed photos. Reassess at 30 days if needed.
- Use compelling copy: Highlight provenance, maker details, and accurate condition notes to justify your price.
Common pitfalls to avoid:
- Pricing off outlier asks: Use realized sales and true comparables, not just the highest active listing.
- Ignoring condition: Buyers will compare photos closely- align price with visible wear.
- Overlooking shipping: High freight costs can suppress demand; sharper pricing can offset this.
Comparing Prices
Performing online searches for similar items can help you gauge the price point for which others may be selling similar items.
We do recommend checking our Pink Book to find what similar items have sold for on Chairish. This guide is best used as a guide to price points on Chairish, not as a definitive reference to assess value. Please note, if the Pink Book does not show a price next to an item, it means the item was sold to a Trade Program member, such as an interior design firm.
Another great option is to search the Chairish category pages to see the range of pricing on current listings.
If you’d like to seek professional help valuing your items, we always recommend using an appraiser that is accredited by the Appraiser’s Association of America.
