This article provides guidelines and tips for measuring and entering dimensions when listing items on Chairish.
This article contains the following sections:
Entering Dimensions
Most shoppers are looking for products with specific dimensions to fit a specific space. Accurate dimensions help shoppers select the right product and reduce the risk of a return. In section 1 (the Basics section) of the listing form, there are three dimensions fields:
- Width: The measurement from side to side.
- Depth: The measurement from front to back. This may also be length, depending on the orientation of the piece.
- Height: The measurement from bottom to top.
All three of these Dimensions fields under section 1 (the Basics section) of the listing form are mandatory.
- The measurements must be entered in inches only.
- The minimum measurement for each field is 0.1”.
All measurements must be oriented to how the item will be positioned when in use, and must represent the fully assembled piece. Please measure your item according to the following guides:

Disassembling Pieces
If your item can be disassembled for shipping, please enter the Shipping Dimensions of the disassembled item or the box size in section 3 (the Logistics section) of the listing form.
Dimensions for Sets
If your listing contains more than one piece of a different size, enter the dimensions of the largest piece in the dimension field and all additional dimensions in the description. Our shipping calculations will be based on the largest item in the set + the number of total pieces.
Category Specific Considerations
Depending on the category of the item you are listing, you will be prompted to complete additional fields specific to that category. Not all of the additional fields are required, but the more fields you complete, the more compelling and accurate your listing will be.
Seating-Specific Fields
- Seat Height: The distance from the floor to the top of the chair seat.
- Number of Seats: The total number of adults a piece can comfortably accommodate.
- Arm Height: The distance from the floor to the highest point of the chair's armrest.
- Seat Interior Width: The usable side-to-side seating space, typically measured between the armrests or from the inner edge of the seat frame/cushion on one side to the other. This measurement is distinct from the overall width of the chair, which includes the exterior of the arms or legs.
- Seat Interior Depth: The distance from the front edge of the seat cushion to the point where the backrest begins. This measurement represents the actual space available for sitting, distinct from the overall chair depth.
Table-Specific Fields
- Dining Table Base: Select Pedestal if the table is supported by a center support (usually singular) or select Legs if the table is supported by multiple supports toward the outside of the table.
-
Table Shape: Select the shape of the surface of your table from the drop-down. Be as specific as possible with this field to help buyers find exactly what they’re looking for.
- Round
- Oval
- Square
- Rectangle
- Half Round
- Other (unique shape)
- Table Knee Clearance: The distance from the floor up to the underside of the tabletop. This is the height that allows a seated person to sit comfortably and pull close to the table without hitting their legs.
- Number of Table Leaves: If your table includes leaves to extend the surface area, be sure to account for them in this field.
- Table Leaf Width: Enter the width of each individual leaf included with the table.
Shipping Dimensions (optional)
If your item can be compressed, folded, or taken apart, enter the total size of the condensed item/set measurements in this field. Utilizing this field, when appropriate, can help decrease the cost of shipping considerably.
- If you do not enter shipping dimensions, the required Dimensions fields in section 2 (the Details section) of the listing form will be used to calculate the cost of shipping.
Examples for measuring shipping dimensions:
- Rugs and textiles: Provide shipping dimensions for the rug when rolled or folded for shipment (ex. rolled diameter and length). If shipping in a poster tube, enter the tube's length and diameter in the shipping dimensions section.
- Multi-piece furniture (ex. sectionals): Include the overall assembled dimensions in the Shipping Dimensions fields. Then, list the total number of sections and the individual measurements for each section in the Description field in section 1 (the Basics section) of the listing form.
Parcel vs. In-Home Shipping:
| Parcel Shipping | In-Home Shipping |
