This article describes how holds work and how Trade Program members can request a hold on an item.

About Hold Requests
You can request a temporary 48-hour hold on some listings so the item isn't purchased by someone else while you finalize your decision. Whether a hold is available is determined by the seller and the item's inventory. Holds are not available on multi-quantity listings.
- A hold temporarily prevents others from buying the item during the hold window. When the hold expires, the item returns to general availability.
- Any fees or deposit requirements are set by the seller and shown during the hold request. If nothing is shown, no deposit is required.
Holds are available on most Chairish listings, but are only available to Trade Program members.
Requesting a Hold
To request a hold, click the Request Hold button on the listing page (while signed into your Trade account).
- Holds cannot be placed by customer support on your behalf.
- Hold requests cannot be submitted to shops that are on Vacation hold. The seller/shop will need to return from Vacation before they can accept hold requests.
The seller will receive your request and if they accept, the item will be placed on a 48-hour hold. If you would like to request a longer hold, please use the Message Seller button to send a message to the seller directly.
Alternative Options
Below are tips for obtaining an item if a hold isn't available:
- Make an offer: Use the Make an Offer feature from the item page and include your timing needs in the message; the seller may accommodate at their discretion.
- Check out promptly: If you're ready to buy, completing checkout immediately is the most reliable way to secure the item.
- Save the item: Add the item to your Favorites to find it quickly later, noting that this does not reserve it.
