Free local pickup allows a buyer to reduce shipping costs by picking up the item from the seller in person.
How it Works
- If an item is eligible, select Free Local Pickup as your shipping method at checkout.
- Once your payment is processed and the order is in our system, Chairish will provide the contact information and approximate location for the seller so you can begin coordination.
- You will receive a 5-digit Verification Code via email. You (or your third-party carrier) must present this code to the seller at the time of pickup to confirm the order has been received.
If you're interested in using Local Pickup, but it is not listed as an available shipping method in the item details, you can message the seller to see if they will allow Local Pickup.
Pickup Timeline
- The buyer must contact the seller within 5 business days to coordinate a pickup date and time.
- Failure to coordinate local pickup within five business days could result in a cancellation of the order.
- Aim to schedule pickup as soon as possible after purchase.
- Keep the seller updated in your order message thread with your planned pickup date.
- Ask for the seller's preferred pickup window and any access instructions.
- All purchases must be picked up within 30 days of the order date- regardless of whether you are picking it up personally or hiring a third-party service.
- If the item is not picked up within 30 days, the order will be either closed or cancelled in the Chairish system.
- Once an order is closed after the 30-day window, the sale is considered final. The buyer and seller must coordinate the pickup together independently. Chairish will no longer intervene or provide support for the coordination of that specific pickup once the system window has passed.
- If an order is canceled, the item will be relisted for sale.
Returns & Inspections
- For Local Pickup orders, all sales are final once the buyer (or their third-party agent/shipper) takes possession of the item. The Chairish 48-hour return policy does not apply to local pickups.
- We strongly encourage buyers to inspect the item thoroughly before completing the pickup.
- If the item is not as described, you must reject the item at the time of pickup. Do not take the item with you and do not share your 5-digit verification code with the seller. If you reject the item, please contact support@chairish.com immediately to initiate a refund.
5-Digit Verification Code
This is a unique code sent to the buyer via email. It acts as your "proof of delivery." You (or your hired shipper) must provide this code to the seller at the time of pickup so they can mark the order as fulfilled.
Where to find it:
- From your Dashboard, access your To-Do List and select your order (the code appears with your pickup steps).
- Your order emails under 'Next Steps'.
If you don’t see a code:
- You can still mark the item as picked up from your To-Do List without the code.
- Share your full name and order number with the seller- they can confirm pickup from their side.
- If neither option is available, contact Support and we’ll provide the code or help confirm completion.
Marking an Order as 'Picked Up'
Marking your order as picked up closes out your order and triggers the seller’s payout.
- Sign in and go to your Dashboard.
- Open your To-Do List and select the applicable order.
- Click Mark as Picked Up and follow the prompts.
- If prompted, enter your 5-digit verification code. If you can’t locate your code, you can still complete the pickup confirmation from your To-Do List.
What happens next:
- Your order status updates to 'Picked Up'.
- We notify the seller and begin their payout.
- You’ll see the status change reflected on your Orders page.
If you’ve already picked up the item but can’t complete the step, reply in your order message thread or contact Support- we can assist or confirm the pickup with the seller.
Packing & Wrapping
As the buyer, you or the hired agent/shipper is responsible for all packing, blankets, and crating. Sellers are expected to have the item clean and accessible, but they are not required to provide professional packing materials.
Seller Preparedness
- The seller is responsible for ensuring the item is clean, prepared, and available at the agreed-upon location and time.
- If the buyer is arranging their own third-party shipping, the seller should ensure the item is ready for transport as-is, unless otherwise coordinated.
