This article describes how sellers can review and action offers received for their items listed on Chairish.
This article contains the following sections:
Benefits of Offers
On Chairish, buyers can choose between purchasing an item outright (the “Add to Cart” option) or bargaining with the seller via the “Make An Offer” option.
A significant percentage (more than 50%) of our transactions are facilitated through our Make an Offer feature, and at price points that are acceptable to both the Buyer and Seller.
All offers are “Verified Offers”, meaning the total offer amount is collected from the buyer at the time the offer is made. The process is the same whether the buyer is making an offer on 1 item or making an offer on a product where more than one is available.
- Make an Offer is a great tool when used well by all parties. However, if you ever happen to encounter a buyer who does not appear to be negotiating in good faith, contact us and we will follow up with them directly.
About Offers
To protect both buyers and sellers, Chairish collects payments from buyers at the time of offer, and holds the proceeds until after confirmation that the item has been picked up or delivered safely to its new home.
For sellers, one of two things will happen when an offer is made:
- If you've set a Reserve Price, and the offer is equal to or greater than the Reserve Price, the offer will automatically be accepted and the sale is complete.
- If the offer is below the Reserve Price you will receive an email with 2 easy choices:
- Accept - Offer is accepted and the deal is done.
- Counter - You will be asked to provide the amount that you are willing to accept. If you are not willing to negotiate, please counter with your Asking Price.
As a Seller, you have 72-hours in which to respond to an offer, but we find that a speedier response leads to increased conversion. The decision to counter is solely your decision.
- Placing an offer does not 'hold' the item for the buyer. The purchase of the item is not complete until both parties agree to the offer.
Reviewing Offers
You can easily manage your offers in multiple ways:
- The Offer email
- Within the Chairish app
- Your To Do List
- The Offers Page
Offers will be sorted by product and offer date (if there are multiple), with the highest price first.
Each offer will display:
- Buyer's first name, last initial, city, state, and zip code
- The quantity they're interested in
- Their offer price
- All offers on Chairish listings must be at least 50% of the listing price of a single item.
- Your current Asking Price, Reserve Price, and Net Price (if applicable)
- A breakdown of the amount you would receive for your seller payment
Offers for Multiple Quantities
If you are selling more than 1 of the same item, offers for multiple quantities will be displayed as a subtotal offer for the quantity selected by the buyer. Your counter offer should also be a subtotal price for the quantity of items selected, rather than the counter offer price of one individual item for sale.
Actioning Offers
Accepting Offers
To accept an offer, click the Accept button on either the 'Offers' page or the Offer email. The buyer will be notified that you accepted their offer and the purchase will be complete. Shipping, delivery, and seller payments will then proceed as usual.
Countering Offers
To counter an offer, click the Counter button on either the 'Offer' page or the Offer email.
- If you decide to counter a buyer's offer, the funds for the original offer will be released to the buyer.
If you have not set a Reserve Price, when you counter an offer, the amount of that counter will be recorded as your Reserve Price for that buyer on that item. This means that any amount the buyer offers above that amount will automatically be accepted, since you've indicated that it's an amount you'll accept. This will not impact your listed price, nor will it impact offers submitted by other buyers.
If the buyer accepts your counter offer, the buyer's card will be charged the counter offer amount. You will be notified that the buyer accepted your counter offer and the purchase will be complete. Shipping, delivery, and seller payments will then proceed as usual.
- If the buyer does not accept the counter offer, they will not be charged for the item.
- The buyer does have the option to counter your counter offer.
'Declining Offers'
If you are not willing to negotiate on price, please counter offers with your Asking Price.
You will have the option to re-engage with the buyer regarding their offer for up to 30 days if you change your mind.
Expired Offers
If you do not respond to an offer within 72 hours, the buyer will be advised that the offer expired.
You will have the option to re-engage with the buyer regarding their offer for up to 30 days.
Re-Engagement of Offers
If you previously did not accept an offer and would like to see if the buyer is still interested, you can do so for up to 30 days after the offer was declined.
On your 'Offers' page, locate the offer you’d like to re-engage and click the Reactivate Offer button. We’ll notify your buyer via email and their To-Do List.
