This article describes how shipping costs are applied to items to ensure those costs are paid by the buyer.
This article contains the following sections:
Who Pays for Shipping?
The Buyer always pays for shipping, unless you have decided to offer free shipping on an item.
The cost of shipping is added to the buyer's order during the checkout process, ensuring that the buyer sees the same item price regardless of where they are located. This ensures that there are no unpleasant surprises for either buyer or seller.
Seller-Managed Shipping
If you elect to manage your own shipping (Seller-Managed Shipping), you must add the shipping costs to the listing form. Shipping costs should include the furthest distance that could apply. We will not ask the buyer to subsidize any estimated shipping costs post-sale.
If you are uncomfortable with that variability, you should consider using Chairish-Managed Shipping instead.
Chairish-Managed Shipping
If you decide to use Chairish-Managed Shipping, we'll assign your item to one of two options based on the size, type, and materials, contained within the listing:
- In-home Shipping: Chairish manages the selection, booking, and payment to the shipper. Chairish will calculate the shipping costs to be passed on to the buyer- that cost will be deducted, along with our commission, before you receive your payout. We do not take any commission on shipping/packing costs.
-
Parcel Delivery: You will receive a pre-paid shipping label from Chairish. However, you are responsible for packing and any costs associated with packing. Review our Packing Guidelines here.
- If you need to charge for packing materials, you can add those costs to your listing; the fees will be rolled into the shipping costs paid for by the Buyer. The packing fees will be passed through to you, with your final payment.
- If you choose to take advantage of the Chairish® Drop Off & Go program, the cost of packing will be deducted, along with our commission, before you receive your payout.
