This article describes expectations for sellers when packing items for shipping, along with tips for successful packing.
This article contains the following sections:
Parcel Delivery
For all small package shipments (parcel deliveries) the seller is responsible for ensuring that each item is safely packed to prevent against damage in transit. This is true for both Seller-Managed and Chairish-Managed parcel delivery.
- If you are not comfortable packing your own items please have them professionally packed prior to shipping.
- If you use a professional packing service, you have the option to charge the buyer for the packing fee by combining it with any other shipping fees you may have. The resulting Shipping Charge is then entered under the 'Shipping & Delivery' section of the listing form. Review our guide for ensuring you're charging buyers for your full shipping costs here.
- As the seller you are responsible for all packing costs and any shipping related damage that results from improper or insufficient packing.
- If a carrier determines item damage was caused by mishandling during transit rather than inadequate packaging, a refund for third-party packing services is not applicable from Chairish. Contact the carrier directly for a reimbursement claim.
If you're using Chairish-Managed shipping and are concerned about being able to package your items safely on your own, the Chairish Drop Off & Go Program has you covered! For a small fee you can have a professional pack your sold items for you, ensuring that they reach their new home safe and sound. You can read more about the Drop Off & Go Program here.
Packing Guidelines
You can help to ensure that your package arrives safely and on time with these packaging guidelines and procedures developed from UPS research.
- Use a rigid box with flaps intact
- Remove any labels, hazardous materials indicators, and other previous shipment markings on the box that are no longer applicable
- Wrap all items separately
- Use adequate cushioning material (UPS recommends minimum of 2" of bubble wrap or similar cushioning material)
- Use strong tape designed for shipping
- Do not use string or paper over-wrap
- Do not use materials that are not designed for packing or that are not in like-new condition
- Use a single address label that has clear, complete delivery and return information
- Place a duplicate address label inside the package
Chairish-Managed In-Home Delivery
When shipping large items via Chairish-Managed shipping, Chairish schedules In-Home Delivery with one of our shipping partners- the seller is not required to do any packing prior to shipping. Our In-Home shippers will pick up each item and will then wrap, box or crate as needed.
However, all items must be uninstalled (chandeliers etc.) or disassembled prior to pickup if appropriate (bed frames etc.).
